I had the immense pleasure and opportunity of visiting Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington DC. I have been waiting to go for years now. I have watched events, done research, and followed the bookstore on social media in anticipation of this day. It finally arrived on March 17, 2021.
Politics and Prose Bookstore has a couple of different locations. I visited the storefront on Columbia Avenue in Washington DC near Georgetown. P&P's iconic and delightful bright green awning welcomed me into the surprisingly large store. The main floor is taken up by, expectedly, new releases and adult fiction, but the niche DC/political (duh) focus is more charming. The section labeled "Beautiful Books" was a welcome surprise, as I have never seen this section at any other bookstore (and I count myself somewhat of a connoisseur).
I bought a Politics and Prose Bookstore canvas bag (I collect these bags from bookstores I visit in my travels.) as well as a book I count as gorgeous even though I did not find it in the "Beautiful" section: For the Love of Books by Thatcher Wine and Elizabeth Lane. (I have already perused it multiple times - this is not really a book you read, but I think peruse is an accurate description of my action.)
I noticed one obscurity, however. I could not find a YA section. While I know of a couple bookstores that do not stock a lot of YA titles, I was a little shocked for Politics and Prose not to have one - a small one at the very least. As a reviewer of mostly YA books, I was a little disappointed. Please let me know if you are a frequent of or are very familiar with Politics and Prose and know that there is a YA section.
Please enjoy the amateur photography I took at Politics and Prose (I am certainly NOT a photographer.)
Gorgeous!!
