SUMMARY
Jamie Watson. An accidental rugby star. Attractive, British high-schooler. A new student at a scenic Connecticut boarding school. The same school becomes the site of a series of crimes. Enter the dynamic, crime-solving duo - Holmes and Watson. But not Sherlock and John. Charlotte and Jamie.
Jamie Watson has always been fascinated by Charlotte Holmes. Their great-great-great grandfathers being part of the famous duo, Jamie has always hoped to recreate and rekindle the crime-solving spirit; however, Charlotte has other ideas. Charlotte Holmes doesn't need help. No vulnerability. No failure. Don't fathom weakness. Don't fathom emotion. But when Jamie Watson starts to get her to open up, what will she do? She's always been good at solving crimes because of her ability to shut down all other parts of her brain besides the analytical part. Now...she might need to listen to her...heart? Has she ever used her heart? Once...that won't happen again. Her heart...that's what got her into this mess in the first place. Back to the case.
When a student both Jamie and Charlotte have connections with dies under suspicious, Holmesian-ly familiar circumstances, Charlotte and Jamie jump in together to solve the case before they are suspected themselves. But can Charlotte trust Jamie? Can Jamie trust Charlotte?
Follow this dynamic duo through three amazing books. (Trust me, you'll be glad there isn't just one.)
REVIEW
Any crime-junkies, true crime fans, or mystery lovers in the room? If you love true crime podcasts (which I have a lot of recommendations for as well), classic mysteries, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, or just a great/twisting plot with a little romance thrown in - READ this series. This is a thrilling twist on a classic with details that are true to the original Conan Doyle stories. I read all three books in a week and a half.
The romance in these novels is sweet, but difficult at times - which is accurate when a person in the relationship has dealt with addiction/has mental trauma. These books are a great representation for debunking the "young love is perfect" infection that is so rampant throughout the YA genre. Honestly, seeing young people trying to figure out a complicated relationship is ironically refreshing for YA. Well done, Brittany Cavallaro.
