Literary Podcasts Part II

Hello everyone. I have missed you all SO MUCH! I haven't blogged as much these past couple days because, drum roll, school started! I promise everyone is safe, masked, and socially distanced at my school. What about you? How has COVID-19 affected you reading? Comment both down below!

Because of internships, programs, busy work, and, now, homework, I have been listening to no end of great podcasts. I already did a post on this, but I have a couple more I NEED to share.

Phoebe Reads a Mystery

I am literally in love, y'all. I can honestly say that I listen to this podcast every day. I have listened to 3 full books on this podcast. I truly cannot get enough. It is a great way to fly through books if you haven't the time to sit down with a physical copy for a couple of days. Phoebe's voice is AMAZINGLY calming, yet informative. This podcast helps me get into books. As you all know, my favorite genre is mystery/detective. This podcast is perfect. Five stars. ZERO complaints.

99% Invisible: Weeding is Fundamental

I love 99% Invisible. The storytelling and educational qualities and capabilities are unsurpassable. This podcast is not necessarily for bookworms, though. This episode is about librarians weeding books, and it is phenomenal. It was recently recommended to me by someone who is an avid podcaster listener. I can say honestly, Phoebe, you were right! I love it! Thank you.

I put on my Instagram in an urgent plea to get my followers to listen to this episode: "If you care anything at all for books, listen to this!"

Read It or List It

This podcast is hosted by Phoebe Wright (squeal-able last name for a book podcaster and bookstagrammer) and Ashley Chandler who are the two least egregious people you will ever meet (I guess by "meet" I mean stalking their bookstagrams, websites, and podcasts.). They both have wonderful and self (or shelf) loving accounts and blogs/websites.

Read It or List It does episodes on a 'series' basis. The hosts choose a genre (or type of book, you'll see) to pitch to each other and to the listeners. These are my favorite episodes because I always walk away with 5 or 6 new book recommendations.

I love listening to this podcast when I'm in a book slump, fresh out of ideas, or just having a rough day. The hosts and the subject will make you smile.

I am realizing there are a lot of Phoebes in this post. I promise they are all different people!

Do you know a literary Phoebe of your own? What are you reading or listening to? When do you start back at school? Happy reading (and listening)!! Comment below!

Author Spotlight: Kimberly Brubaker Bradley

Kimberly Brubaker Bradley At my school, I am a Library Leader. (Library Leaders promote reading in the middle school and recommend books for the younger grades.) The Library Leaders had the fortunate opportunity of eating lunch and meeting with Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. We got to ask her questions and just talk with her. Mrs. Bradley also spoke to the whole seventh and eighth grade in assembly about her research. 1)      When/How does she write? Mrs. Bradley writes in the morning, but this depends on her chores for the day. She got into her routine when her children, now graduating college and out of college, were small and went to school. She would always wait until her husband took them to drop them off at school. She likes for her writing space to be very quiet. She prefers typing when she when she writes as to writing. (This may be pretty common; I do not know what the common format among writers is today. I just thought I would include eve...

The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

Reading and writing, reading and writing, reading and writing: that's what I hope to keep doing all summer (with some swimming and seeing friends mixed in there too!). Here's another review! This is Stuart Turton's The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle,  and it's a doozy.  SUMMARY THE RULES OF BLACKHEATH Evelyn Hardcastle will be murdered at 11:00 p.m. There are eight days and eight witnesses for you to inhabit. We will only let you escape once you tell us the name of the killer. Understood? Then let's begin... Evelyn Hardcastle WILL die. And every day Aiden Bishop WILL try to identify her killer and break this neverending cycle he has somehow found himself in. But every time a new day begins, Aiden inhabits the body of a different guest at Blackheath. Some of Aiden's hosts will be more helpful than others. Some of Aiden's hosts are more capable than others. Some of Aiden's hosts start to overcome Aiden's true personality. Then again, who is Aiden? A...
