Hello all! You know what time of year it is (finally). SUMMER! The prettiest weather, the best activities, the cutest outfits, and (I saved the best for last) the most time for reading. As you all know, summer is the time when BTP gets the most action. I read more, review more, post more, take pictures more, book club more, everything with books - MORE. I thought I would give you all a BTP summer update / plan so (1) you know what to expect, and (2) I can hold myself accountable for posting.  MORE FREQUENT POSTS I plan to post more often (significantly more often) now that school is out, and I don't have homework and you know, I don't have to drive an hour to school every day. Summer is winding down for the school that I attend. Since summer reading is a great source of stress when the summer quickly (seemingly) closes, I thought I would make this blog one of resources for summer reading. This will be organized by MS grade. These books are specific to the required reads at my school. As we students are nearing the one-month-mark until the beginning of school, whether that may be on-campus or virtual, summer reading anxiety will set in soon. Whether your school has an all-school-read or a pick-your-own-book year mapped out, summer reading is stressful. Both book lovers and I-only-read-for-schoolers alike don't enjoy summer reading. You know why? It's forced. Quick example: You wake up on a summer, Monday morning and think - I have no more clean clothes to wear. I am going to wash my own laundry and do it all today. - You head downstairs, and the first thing your mother says is, you guessed it, - Do your laundry. - You don't want to do it anymore, do you?  Well, summer reading is the same way. You decide - I'm going to read this cool, historical, mystery novel. - But as soon as your school springs a book with the word of the year as the title like endurance, sustainability, responsibility, or empathy, case closed - you're not doing it. Summer reading is a daunting task for book lovers and timid readers alike. It is often put off until the last minute because of other activities, the school-wide read being very boring, and just "having better things to do". When summer reading is put off (or not done at all), it can put an unnecessary amount of stress on the tail end of summer vacation. Here are a couple strategies and tips for finishing your summer reading in a non stressful, easy, and swift manner. Also, this can help you ace that beginning of year quiz or essay on the novel.   Stretch It Out The great thing about summer is that it is fairly long. If you don't like to read or have other things besides a book on recycling to read, you will not want to sit down and just crank the reading out. Frankly, you won't be able to.       Why is it that we love to read when we are not forced to do so? When you have a summer book assigned by your school or parent that you have to read, it just is not as fun as it would be reading your favorite genres or titles for pleasure. For me, this I what summer is about. During the summer, I read as many books as I can. Every spare moment goes to reading. For you, this may not be the case. When I started posting on this blog, I vowed that I would get more girls interested in reading. I did not just mean school reading or assigned/forced reading, I meant reading for pleasure too. My goal is not to get you to do read every second of every single day, but it is to get you interested in reading when you are not forced to do so, because we can learn a lot from books.
