OK cheesy, YA romance lovers - boy, have I got the book for you. Are you perhaps a dancer? Do you speak French? Do you love Paris? What about hot French guys? Yes to one or more of those questions? This one is for you. That's it. Now you can actually read the review.
Sorry - another thing - the book cover matched my smoothie. I was entirely too proud of that.
SUMMARY
Mia Jenrow knows exactly what she wants. Despite her mother's constant dismissal of her dreams, Mia wants to be, no scratch that, will be a professional ballerina. Accepting the chance of a lifetime to study under ballet-master Monsieur Dabrowski, Mia Jenrow is in Paris for the summer. Good things only come with hard work, and in Mia's case, it is very VERY hard work. Eat, sleep, dance, repeat - Mia's days become routine, but get harder and harder.
Soon, Mia meets (you guessed it) a devastatingly handsome and charming French guy that's....whaaaaat...her age! He drives a vespa and paints (no, I'm not kidding). But Louis (yes, that's this guy's name - pronounced 'Looey' and all) is Monsieur Dabrowski's son. Will Mia be able to keep her summer romance a secret? Will she get her dream slot with ABT (American Ballet Theatre)? Will her summer fling turn into something more? Is Mia ready to compete among top dancers?
REVIEW
I liked this book. I truly did. As you all know, I read classics like a mad-woman, so a cheesy lil romance is hard to read sometimes. I will admit - this was a GREAT break from reading classics. Kisses and Croissants by Anne-Sophie Jouanneau is a sweet, summer romance. It is innocent, but still very cute.
All jokes aside about the traditional, cheesy book with the hunky French guy and the perfect summer, summer travel, romance books make up a whole separate genre (a post about this is coming soon). To put it simply, my least favorite thing is when a reader complains about a book when the genre simply wasn't for her/him. *If you don't like cheesy romance, this book is NOT for you.*
If you enjoy art (specifically Degas), dance, or learning about French culture, pick this one up. It is light and quick - a great read for the pool.
Happy reading!! When are you reading right now?
